Client D: Hair Supplement Brand

How mapping a skeptical buyer's journey turned strong ad clicks into an 18% increase in sales in month one, and 64% by month three.

Proves: Journey Psychology . Trust Signals . Behavioural Friction

  • 18% increase in sales in month one of implementation

  • 64% increase in sales by the end of month three, on an ongoing retainer

  • Full 8-point Friction Audit, with 3 areas identified as highest-impact

The situation

This client is a hair supplement brand, brought in to run a Friction Audit and improve their reach. Their audience was women who were understandably skeptical, because a supplement is a health and biology-led purchase, and that kind of decision carries a different psychology to most other buying decisions.

The strategy

The audit found their top-of-funnel messaging was genuinely strong: ads and social content highlighted their audience's exact pain points clearly enough to drive real click-through to the checkout page. But almost nobody converted once they got there.

The reason was Journey Psychology: the same messaging that worked to draw someone in was carried, unchanged, through every later stage of the buying process, when what a skeptical buyer needs to hear next is completely different from what first caught their attention.

I mapped their buyer's journey psychology end to end, then rebuilt the messaging, copy, checkout funnel, website, sales pages, and email marketing around it, so each stage spoke to exactly what that customer was thinking at that specific point, not a single, static pitch repeated throughout.

The second major point of friction was Trust Signals. The brand had very few visible, especially given how essential trust is in the health and wellness space. I built a plan around partnering with qualified creators, trained doctors, nutritionists, and dietitians, alongside stronger user reviews and a lift in content and branding quality, itself a subconscious trust signal most brands overlook.

The third was Behavioural Friction: a glitch late in the checkout process that was quietly forcing hesitation at exactly the moment it mattered most. For a considered, non-cheap purchase like this, giving a customer any reason to pause, secondguess, or leave and 'come back later' is often enough to lose the sale entirely.

Fixing it removed a barrier that had nothing to do with messaging and everything to do with flow.

The remaining five areas of the Friction Audit weren't perfect starting out either, and I worked to improve each of them, but these three were the highest-leverage fixes for this business.

The result

Sales increased 18% in the first month after implementation. By the end of month three, working together on an ongoing retainer, that had grown to a 64% increase in sales.

Journey Psychology made the single biggest difference, because it was applied everywhere, not just the ad campaigns, but the branding, web design, and email funnel too, though every friction point resolved played a part in the end result.

The behavioural principle

Strong top-of-funnel messaging can actively work against you if it doesn't evolve as the buyer moves closer to a decision. This is especially true for health and biology-led purchases, where skepticism is the default starting point, not the exception.

Meeting a buyer at the psychological stage they're actually in, rather than repeating the message that first got their attention, is what turns clicks into completed sale
